SO, I WATCHED SCOOB AND WROTE A REVIEW !

Preface: I grew up watching Scooby Doo. I’ve loved almost every incarnation too, because to me, there is no such thing as “ruining” Scooby Doo. Every incarnation, reboot, remake, whatever you wanna call it brought us something new to the table. And now, a generation of kids are going to watch this movie and hopefully want to watch the original movies and shows and to me, that already makes this movie five stars.

But on I go to actually review. First, if you’re a HUGE fan like me, here are some things you might be dissapointed about. The generic formula doesn’t apply here really. That’s one thing the movie is lacking, that quintessential haunted MYSTERY vibe. There is a mystery here, but it’s not as spooky or classic as the old show. Also, obviously, the voice actors aren’t the same as the classics. For that, I have to say SHAME ON YOU WB/HB. Grey De Lisle and Matthew Lillard are cult classics, and the fandom ADORES them, and the way they’ve been cast aside is deplorable. However, with that being said, Gina, Amanda, Will and Zac all did AMAZINGLY as the gang, I think. One other thing I disliked was the way it was trying SO HARD to be relevant to kids (i.e the dabbing, the pop culture references “all I do is win” etc.) it just felt really cringy to me at times. Kind of like it was missing some authenticity. Fans, you’ll also miss Velma’s classic sass in this, too.

However, for every thing I didn’t like, SCOOB! turned around and gave me so much to love. For one, the throwbacks to the classic era of Scooby Doo were an instant teargrab for me. I was sobbing within 2 minutes of watching. Involving the Dick Dasterdly and Muttley was a stroke of genius too for all of us who grew up watching Boomerang. Getting to see Mystery Inc’s heroic origins was also just brilliant and heartwarming. Honestly, there’s so much I could praise, but if I praised everything I loved, I’d never stop. A few quick things are the beautiful new character designs, the characterizations (Daphne’s big, beautiful heart!!! She’s such an amazing person I’d die for her), and Dick’s whole character in this (it’s just PERFECT, if not a little over the top).

This movie has so much heart, you guys. Whether you’re a new fan, or an old time Scooby Doo lover, you won’t come out from watching this without crying at least once. The moral of this movie is that you can depend on your friends. Scooby and Shaggy are the most loyal people on tv, in my opinion, and they’re great role models for kids. And if you think about it, that’s the moral of all the Scooby Doo movies. Take out all the mystery stuff, and it’s just about a group of friends, and a boy and his dog. In that regard, SCOOB! captured that perfectly.

I heavily recommend renting this if you can. It’s a cute movie and there’s a few good jokes in there too. But DAPH-inetily have a box of tissues handy. You’ll need it.
