S

your name is a punch to the throat. it is a kick to the gut. it is the drop in my stomach when i remember that it does not belong to me anymore.

oh, there was a time where the letters of your name fit like new teeth in my mouth. they grew there so perfectly; like flowers in a garden, neat, in a row. my tongue was the soil your name took root in, and now i am unearthed, broken up between savage hands.

your name does not belong in someone else’s mouth. for foreign lips to form the tender syllables is a crime, is a betrayal i have no right to claim, but to hear them say your name so brusquely, so carelessly sends shards of glass through my ears; i bleed at the thought of your butchered name

but i break

when i imagine someone loving it is as i do. to whisper it with soft intent, to moan it like liquid sin… to think your name sleeps better in someone else’s bed is to set my own on fire.

burn it. i don’t want it anymore.

an ode to your name // d.s.
