My best advice for recovering from trauma is talking about it. My god, will it hurt to begin with, you will break down and it will rip you inside out the first few times. But the more often you do it, the more your brain accepts and processed that it actually happened, and you start to cry less. Eventually, you begin feel your heart heal and although the scars never fully go away, they fade into almost nothing.

Keeping it all in only stews itself into something larger and more painful to deal with later. Then when it all blows up you will have a much larger scar than before. That’s not say you should force yourself to be open about what happened, but definitley try to, the earlier the better.

When we break an important bone, we don’t try to hobble around on it, causing ourselves more damage. We go get help and allow ourselves to heal with the correct support and care, and it’s the same with mental health. Talking about trauma is also a form of self validation.
